Dulce de Leche, usually known in English as Milk Caramel or Milk Caramel Spread is a VERY typical Latin American treat that goes well with all types of desserts.
Ours is made by hand, using only cow milk, sugar, vanilla essence and a bit of baking soda, and is cooked for at least three hours, until it reaches the desired consistency.
Unlike regular caramels, Dulce de Leche does not have any added fat, butter, thickeners or anything other than the ingredients mentioned above. This is what makes it so smooth and irresistible, and does not leave that buttery after-taste like caramel does.
